Punta Gorda Welcomes Castaways and Latitude 26° — A Waterfront Dining Revival
Punta Gorda, FL (August 2025) — The waterfront at Fishermen’s Village is undergoing an exciting transformation. Local restaurateur Kelly Evans Draper, former president of Smugglers Enterprises, is leading the charge with two new dining concepts: Castaways and Latitude 26°.
Two Distinct Dining Experiences
- Castaways – Located on the ground floor, Castaways takes over the former Harpoon Harry’s space. The redesigned restaurant features a centrally placed bar offering sweeping 180° water views and a relaxed, tropical vibe. Guests will also enjoy a nostalgic game nook reminiscent of the original Harpoon Harry’s charm.
- Latitude 26° – Upstairs, Latitude 26° replaces The Captain’s Table with a refreshed look, elevated atmosphere, and panoramic views of Charlotte Harbor. The design balances modern flair with the welcoming feel that longtime patrons loved.
A Family Legacy Reimagined
For Draper, this project is deeply personal. Her grandfather, Don Donelson, played a key role in launching Fishermen’s Village in 1979. Her father, Ron Evans, later opened Harpoon Harry’s in 1993 under Smugglers Enterprises. By introducing Castaways and Latitude 26°, Draper is continuing her family’s legacy of shaping Punta Gorda’s dining scene.
Leadership With Local Roots
When first approached to reimagine the spaces, Draper hesitated before deciding to take a hands-on role. She is actively overseeing construction and renovations, describing her approach as “boots on the ground.” Her local ties and decades of industry experience give her a unique perspective on what Punta Gorda’s community wants and needs in its waterfront dining destinations.
Community Anticipation
The sudden closures of Harpoon Harry’s and The Captain’s Table in May left many Punta Gorda residents disappointed, as both restaurants had been community staples for celebrations, fireworks, and family gatherings. Their revival under new names and new energy has already sparked excitement.
The openings of Castaways and Latitude 26° are expected in early 2026, though Draper hinted that doors could open sooner if renovations stay on schedule.
